Annual Day of Remembrance - December 6h

11/15/2011

Please join us for the: Annual "Children’s Memorial Park" Candlelight Vigil to honor the memory of children who have died, regardless of age or reason.

Date:  Tuesday, December 6

We will gather at 6:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church at 303 South 9th Avenue, Virginia.  Those in attendance that wish to go outside, will proceed to the dedicated park area as a group.  We encourage you to dress warmly.  Following a brief ceremony at the park, the candlelight service will take place inside the United Methodist Church chapel at 7:00 p.m. The chapel will be open for those in attendance not wanting to attend the outside service.
Our hope is to create an “Angel of Hope” park.   The "Angel of Hope," is part of a national and international network of memorial parks that provide a place of comfort and hope to parents, family members and friends who grieve the loss of a child.  There are over 100 such parks in existence.  The initial memorial statue and subsequent memorial parks were inspired by the book “The Christmas Box” by the author Richard Paul Evans.  Every December 6th at 7:00 p.m., there is a healing ceremony held at all of the Christmas Box Angels throughout the USA.

Whether or not you can attend, you may want your child’s name printed in the program as a memorial.  If so, please mail in the name, printed clearly, to Children’s Memorial Park, 1114 South 12th Street, Virginia, MN  55702.   We will light a candle in memory of the child who has died and read his or her name.

We will have a “picture board” of children who have died.  If you would like, bring a picture of the child with you to the service.  The picture will be placed on a board outside the chapel and will remain until after the service is completed.

The Friends of the Children’s Memorial park will provide hot drinks & cookies following the service.  Please feel free to bring a white flower in memory of your loved one.  Recognizing and welcoming families of all faiths and cultures.
